With this day tour to Kaikoura, you will be encouraged to relax! Kaikoura is surfer’s paradise and home to an abundance of wildlife which you will encounter as we near this town. The surrounding scenery of breathtaking bright blue Pacific Ocean in contrast with the Kaikoura Ranges allows you to take those Instagram worthy photos and experience a region like no other.

The main attraction of this tour is the whale watch experience.

The main focus of your tour is to locate and view the Giant Sperm whale. We average between 1 to 2 whale sightings per tour due to the length of time the whales can stay submerged. The whales form loose pods, keeping several miles between each other, so viewing any more than 1 to 2 whales per trip is a real bonus.
Around 80% of the world’s whale and dolphin species migrate past our coastline so at any given time there is the opportunity for other species of marine mammals to be sighted such as Blue, Fin, Sei, Humpback, Minke, Pilot, Orca and Southern Right Whales, Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Southern Right Whale Dolphins, Elephant Seals and Leopard Seals.”

Itinerary:
Christchurch – We start by leaving the Garden City/Christchurch and heading north towards our destination, while our knowledgeable driver points out some of the Garden City’s highlights.
Waipara (30min) – This journey can’t be done without a little bit of… WINE. While passing through beautiful, lush green countryside, vineyards, and farms! The Waipara region is one of New Zealand’s premier wine regions and our first stop. – Here you will have the opportunity to taste a selection of wine from a locally owned and operated vineyard before we head towards the coastal town of Kaikoura. Don’t worry if wine isn’t your thing, you can substitute wine for beer!
Cheviot (15min) – As we continue with our day, we make our way to Cheviot. Cheviot is a hidden treasure and one of New Zealand’s largest coastal routes. We will be stopping here to refuel and stretch our legs. Once you have had a bit of a break, we continue passing through the beautiful Hundalee hill. You will know we are close as you keep an eye out for surfers and local wildlife – you may even spot a few seals. As we weave our way through this scenic road, we are greeted by stunning panorama views.
Kaikoura (4hr) – Once in Kaikoura you will have the opportunity to have lunch before we check in! Sperm Whales and even orcas if you’re lucky can be seen from a catamaran as you pass through the Pacific Ocean off Kaikoura. You will spend your time searching for these magnificent creatures while on the water. Our driver will collect you straight from the reception to head back to the city after your tour.
Christchurch – After a fun and wonderful day packed day filled with a range of landscapes, experiences, and scenery. You can sit back and relax as we make our way back to the Garden City.

Please note additional stops are taken into consideration for toilet breaks. This tour is purely for those interested in Whale Watching and there will be no opportunity for local walks or shopping unfortunately.
